At the time of writing, the confirmed number of dead in the tsunami disaster is 125,000 and will no doubt rise much further. Now is clearly the time to give to the aid agencies so they can get into the area with supplies to help people shelter and, crucially, to stop disease taking hold and causing an even greater disaster.
Here in the UK the Disasters Emergency Committee represents all of the major aid organisations and are the central point receiving donations. This BBC article describes the work going on at present. Please click here to donate to the DEC. They are also taking donations from overseas.

I’ve watched two great sporting comebacks, thanks to our good friends at Sky Sports Firstly the England cricketers managed to salvage a draw from the 2nd Test against South Africa today, when they looked dead and buried after the first innings for each side left them 193 runs behind. An enormous opening partnership in the second innings by Trescothick and Strauss gave England a huge start on the way to 570-7 declared, and victory suddenly seemed likely. However, sturdy South African defence and a dose of bad light ended the fascinating match in a draw.
The second comeback in a slightly different arena was by Wayne Mardle against Paul Williams in the 4th round of the World Darts Championship in Purfleet. Mardle found himself 3-1 down in the best of seven sets match and almost unable to hit a double, and yet managed to come all the way back to win 4-3. A victory as outrageous as the usual dodgy Hawaiian shirt he played in…

For those from outside the UK, NTL is a cable company - this thread on Digital Spy is a pretty comical tale of one engineer’s quest to give a lady customer a “repull”…

This game, played yesterday, was a fast-moving game which could have gone either way. Stephen Elliott headed Sunderland’s opener just after half-time, but Forest should have been in front in the first half, with David Johnson producing what was apparently one of the greatest misses of all time!
A mix-up between Gary Breen and Thomas Myhre left an open goal for Andy Reid to aim at from 30 yards out to level the scores, but Marcus Stewart fired the winner in injury time to send Sunderland second in the league.

This game was on Boxing Day and being home for Christmas gave me the opportunity to attend. Many others must have had the same idea, with a huge crowd of 43,253 turning up.
Considering the respective league positions, Sunderland did not show the extra class you would expect, and in fact Leeds probably deserved at least a point from the game.

I apologise for the lack of recent updates, I’ve caught a bit of a nasty bug so I’m spending time on the toilet instead of in front of my laptop at the moment… I’ll get back up to date as soon as possble.
