Congratulations to Sunderland who won the league tonight by beating West Ham 2-1 at Upton Park… I can almost taste the fear of next season already

If you loved the JibJab flash cartoons produced during the US Presidential election last year, you’ll love this, produced in the run up to the General Election on 5th May, especially if you aren’t a huge fan of either Tony Blair or Michael Howard…

A bit of black insulating tape was all it needed to make the indicator sufficiently attached - the MOT went without a hitch (phew!)
|
The flat complex where I live was having some maintenance done that meant I had to leave my motorbike parked on a nearby street (in a designated motorbike parking space) for two nights. In typical low-luck style, someone has either knocked into the bike with their car or kindly pushed it off the stand, resulting in this:
Of course, this couldn’t have happened after it’s been for it’s MOT on Friday… now I need to do some serious bodging to make sure it passes…

The top non-election story of the moment is the impending demise of MG Rover, the West Midlands-based car manufacturer. Whilst there is no doubt that the loss of several thousand jobs would be a terrible outcome for the area, I can’t help but think that the Government is giving it an unusually high profile (I wonder why that would be…?)
At home in the north east of England there has been nothing short of a catastrophic loss of manufacturing jobs. Between the complete destruction of the coal mining and ship building industries, and the closure of manufacturing plants owned by Siemens, Fujitsu, Philips, Dewhirst, Electrolux and Black & Decker amongst others, a huge number of families have had honest hard-working members stripped of their employment. I don’t recall my “local” MP Mr Blair coming and showing his face when those places closed down.
I think Blair, Brown, Hewitt et al should admit that they aren’t really that bothered about saving Rover, they’re just interested in securing votes for themselves come May 5th. The unfortunate thing is that working class areas like the majority of the north east will probably return Labour to government, despite the undercurrent of discontent towards Labour.
